jobness.

okay, so now that i've had this job for a few days, i figured i could actually babble about it for a while.
so my father pulled some strings and got me in as a receptionist/secretary/administrator/intern at his ad agency. i get to basically keep everything looking nice on the outside to our clients and will eventually get to do things on the inside, which means working on the ad projects. yay design. :D currently, i answer the 'phone, send invoices and orders via fax and e-mail, file stuff, create databases, sort the mail, deliver messages... all that kind of stuff. all in the comfort of air-conditioning, no less.
i get 7.50 an hour, which is...gorgeous. and i was hired as an "indepenant contractor," so i am not an official employee of my father's company. while that means i don't get insurance plans (which i already get through my dad, anyway XD) or paid vacations and whatnot, they don't withold ANY amount of my paycheck for taxes. since i don't pay them because i am not old enough and don't make enough, that means i get to have all of my hard-earned paycheck right up front. :DD
now, i'm not really complaining too much here, because it is a very cozy job and i feel totally spoiled for having it XD, but to every good thing, there is a bad. it is the most godawful boring job on the planet. because the "intern" part of my job hasn't started yet, i only get to do this grunt work that anyone even mildly experienced with a computer could do. so, so boring.
currently i'm stuck typing in publication names into an on-line database and looking up contact information for these guys so we can send press releases to them for our clients. the reason i'm getting a lot of the computer stuff thrown on me is because the other two receptionists hardly know how to turn the computer on, let alone use it. i do everything they do about fifty times faster, harr.
with my wee attention span, it is so hard to focus. i am kinda glad that i don't get to make a claim to the desk i use, since i share it with the lady who works the other two days of the week, because then i would be tempted to fill it up with desk toys and then get soooooo easily distracted. i can do this kind of thing for maybe three hours straight every day, but then i need to do something different or go to lunch or take a bathroom break or SOMETHING.
jeez, i didn't know so many magazines could ever EXIST. there are hundreds and hundreds of the most goddamn obscure publications out there... like practical oil analysis and microlithography world.
i shit you not, those are real publications. and there also people getting PAID to write about these things and put together magazines about them. srsly, wtf.
however, it allows me to put together a list of the funniest names i come across. i think today's winner was the national association of tower erectors. XD XD
so while this is a million times better than that goddamn job at the bakery last summer -shudder-, this reaffirms my promise that i will never, never put myself in an office cubicle for the rest of my working life.
i guess i'd rather have a boring job than a stressful one, but i can't stand either for too long.
and...that's about it. working three days a week isn't too bad. i'm still working on getting a second part-time job at the dinner theatre where everyone else works so i can be with those guys (this job will hurt my social life considerably, since everyone can only do stuff during the day usually, and i work on the day that everyone has off) and get more monies. and uhh... ... ... stare at the gorgeous redhead that works there, too. just a bit. i guess.
but umm... this will be the more important job, since it's something i can actually add to my resume. i am an actual intern, guys. ;D put that in your college resume and smoke it, baby.
... yeah!
first paycheck will be a-comin' this weekend (payroll is every 1st and 15th). i believe that adds up to about $280 or so. which is yum. most of that will be going directly to CONvergence, since i have a room to pay for (i think?) and stuff to buy before and during there. X3
i am planning on putting together something small (and pretty lame XD) for the con, cosplay-wise. but it will be awesome to me and maybe some of my friends, if they don't think i'm a total dork. had i been able to get my hands on money earlier, i would've done something more complicated... i wanted to put together a lulu (ffX) outfit. *_* but that'll have to wait until next year, methinks!
anyway. so that's where all my money is mostly going. the next payout and whatever remains here will all be going to new york, too. so umm... buy me cds. XD
by the way, wee!calvin pwns you all.
