arts and crafts.

Classical @ 09:44 am CST

music: Matchbox Twenty - Disease
feeling: sleepy, but jubilant

bag came, wheeee!
it is cozy, has lots of pockets, and is a lot more black than the image said it would be. but that makes it better. ;P

and i am working on my hat for CONvergence this weekend. it will be wonderous.
no hints as to what it is, though. y'all will find out later. :P

annnnd.. since i was at the craft store yesterday, i picked up some cheap yarn and i'm making a scarf now. because i promised someone one.
but i think i'll have to do more of these, 'cause it's damn good fun.

thanks to driving around in a hot, humid car for two hours yesterday, i've discovered the wonder of matchbox twenty all over again. i need to listen to this cd more often!

Tuesday, June 28th

in command.

Classical @ 08:52 pm CST

music: The Decemberists - On the Bus Mall
feeling: mournful

kay, the lady i usually work with at work, quit working.
i don't have a cleaning buddy anymore. the girl they hired in place of her doesn't clean so well. >_o

oh well.
now i get to "be in charge," and i have the bakery key.
next on the list: get a freakin' raise.

we also had to knock down a sparrow nest right above the door at the bakery today. i felt so bad about it; i made the other lady who works there a lot, tracy, knock it down. there were five baby sparrows that had little more than fluff on them. and i don't think a lot of them even survived the fall from the top of the door to the ground. some of them wouldn't move afterward.
._.

i've spent a total of 60 dollars on gas...in one week.
something is just not adding up there. that's half of my first paycheck! and i'm not quite sure i want to take the car this weekend, unless i get my father to fill it up before i go. because i ain't spending anymore of my goddamn paycheck on gas for a while. :|
i still need to buy some things for CONvergence this weekend. i really want to try and make a fuzzy little cat-eared hat before i go, so i have to go to the fabric store and buy some strechy fleece tomorrow morning. and then i have to get soda. and i only have forty-five dollars left in my account, plus a few in my wallet, whereas i wanted a hundred to go to the convention with.
uff.

but my bag should be arriving tomorrow, so maybe that'll make me feel better. ;__;

y'know what sucks?

Classical @ 05:22 pm CST

feeling: ill

guess what really sucks!
when the other lady scheduled to help for eight hours doesn't show up and you get to do a lot of the back-breaking cleaning by yourself because the makeshift helper is lazy. and that's after getting five hours of sleep the previous night because you were as sick as a dog at one in the morning.

that's what sucks.
it sucks ass.
i can't really feel my feet.

Friday, June 24th

1, 2, 3... FUCK.

Classical @ 06:37 pm CST

music: Coldplay - Yellow
feeling: silly

ooh, what a day.
on this grey, stormy-looking, hot day, my coworker, kay, and i had a little adventure. or a good laugh, anyway.

we normally throw out all the donuts in the bakery every night into a big garage bin. it usually gets emptied every night, but today, it wasn't. so we had to use another garbage bin and then get those donuts into the big dumpster out back somehow.
we picked the garbages that hover around the back rooms in the bakery, thinking, "oh, these bags are heavy-duty. they'll work."
so we stuffed one bag full of donuts and had a few left, so i really packed those suckers in so we could fit them al in one bag. and we did. waddling out the door with this massive, heavy bag of donuts, we approach the problem of how the hell we're going to get that thing into the dumpster. you have no idea how heavy two cases full of donuts is.
so kay says, "we'll swing it and on the count of three, let it fly in." this didn't look like it would work, but we tried anyway.

"1... 2... 3--FUCK!"
bag exploded.

so, yup, that was insanely humorous to me for whatever reason. probably because i didn't have enough things to laugh at during the day. i fell flat on my ass, giggling madly, and when i looked to kay again, she was pushing donuts into one of those snowplow shovels and letting them fly in a hurry--our employer, dave, was still there.

i'm gonna have to make a comic out of that or something. :P

yeah.. otherwise, wasn't such a wonderous day. some gang of preteen boys came by and took some of the leftover donuts in that bin from yesterday and flung them at people half an hour before that.
which was really sad, because they came in later (before we knew what had happened) and one of the boys ordered some things. he was really nice and polite, so i didn't quite believe that could've been them.
but that explains why they went behind the bakery before they came in. :\

mmph. oh well. one day left for the week, and then i get two days off to recover and do other things. like socialize.

Wednesday, June 22nd

whee.

Classical @ 09:01 pm CST

music: Coldplay - Twisted Logic
feeling: excited, anticipant

welp, i settled on the $19.99 calpak bag, and it'll be here in time for convergence, so i'm quite happy. <3
got to use my debit card for the first time on-line. :d

mrrrr.
and i heard the most adorable little secret today, but i gotta keep my lips shut for a few weeks. ohmanohman, it's gonna be hard, though. eeeee. :D

paper or plastic?

Classical @ 01:16 pm CST

music: The Shins - Weird Divide
feeling: frustrated

JESUS CHRIST.
who knew shopping for a friggin' bag would be so damn hard?! D:

i've gotten my first paycheck, and i won't be getting another for two weeks.. so i'm going to spend this on convergence, gas for the week, and a bag.
it's come to the point where i need something more than just my pockets to carry around my daily stuff. i now have a checkbook and cell phone to drag along with me, as well as other things. so i need a daily bag-purse-thing.

and i can't seem to find what i'm looking for. either they're the right size and UGLY AS SIN, or they're the right style and they're too big.
i may just end up getting a backpack. i wouldn't mind that, i guess, but it wouldn't be as portable as i would like it to be.

fuck, i went to target and kohl's to look at their bag selections and they've got these MASSIVE handbags in the right style and price range... but they're ugly! HORRIBLY ugly. i wouldn't want to be toting those things around on my shoulder all day.
i want a purse thing that actually looks like a purse, or i want a bag that's supposed to be a bag. not an oversized purse thing.

i think a backpack/sling bag might be the way to go. i could actually carry around my sketchbook, and when school starts up again, i have everything with me.

so i found these bags in the style that i want 'em in, and i can't decide.

bulge shoulder bag - EXPENSIVE. and i don't know if i like that microfiber material much. but it's the right style and pretty roomy. lots of pockets.
invicta harlem messenger bag - really cool looking and has the nice clips, but it's massive. and if i miss the sale, it's expensive, too.
calpak negotiator soft briefcase - very nice, good reviews, right style. great price. tons of pockets! :D but it's also a really big bag.
manhattan portage west side shoulder bag - insanely expensive for a small bag, but it's the purse size i was looking for orignally.

my sister likes the harlem bag, and i'm leaning more toward the calpak bag right now.
so why don't you, reader, put down your vote, if you don't mind doing so? <3

Classical @ 08:30 pm CST

music: Keane - Everybody's Changing
feeling: like exploding!

my brain has EXPLODED!

if you, whoever is reading this, haven't seen howl's moving castle yet, i will force you to! most painfully!
it was marvelous, spectacular, wonderous, magical!

but! if you haven't seen it yet, don't read the full journal, 'cause i'll ruin it for you! ;P

Friday, June 17th

...ow.

Classical @ 07:29 pm CST

music: Beck - Girl
feeling: pained

i've discovered a new level of pain today.
adding onto the "everything-below-my-lower-back-pain" and my arms getting sore... my ankles have swollen to twice their normal size and hurt like hell. i also have bruises all over my knees from kneeling for so long on tile and cement, cleaning fucking cases of donuts five times after rounds of damn kids came in and drooled all over them.
(no, really, kids would stick their mouths to the glass cases and their parents wouldn't give a damn. at least consider the fact that they're all germy, not to mention i just fucking cleaned them!)

eeugh.
i don't want to even think of the agony i will be in tomorrow, since my working time is doubled. and y'all have no idea how busy it can get on saturdays. i will be on my feet every fucking minute of the eight fucking hours i am working, if i don't crumble to the floor first because my feet stop working.

...
..okay. i'm done.
i go mope now for the rest of the weekend...after i find some fucking ice.
have the whole house to myself, so i might as well. :|

Wednesday, June 15th

every step i take...

Classical @ 06:46 pm CST

music: Coldplay - White Shadows
feeling: ouchy

today, i got to deal with my first bitchy customer at work.
what a milestone. :d

in other news.. i need some gel inserts for my shoes or something, because my feet fucking hurt.
and i wasn't even on them all four hours at work. it was really slow today, so i spent a lot of time sitting and making boxes.
not looking forward to saturday evening, after eight hours in that place. D:

ooh well. working there is cool; i'm really getting the hang of it, and eventually, i'll have all the prices and pastries memorized. and the lady i work with--her name is kay--is really neat, nice, and easy to talk to.

i'm going to shower and then perhaps turn in early. waking up at 8:30 this morning was difficult and i'm quite sleepy, uff.

donuts!

Classical @ 09:30 am CST

music: The Decemberists - The Bagman's Gambit
feeling: sleepy

i'm sleepy.
for the past two days, i've been up far too early than i want to be. today, i had to drive my brother places (and I get to play "mom" for an hour and a half this afternoon, gargh) and yesterday, i thought i had to drive, so i got up early for nothing that day.

yawwwwn.
it's a killer on my whole body at large; i'm gonna be so worn-out and sore after work today.

oh, yes!
i started working yesterday at the bakery. i get a lot of free stuff--free access to the 'fridge and sandwich cart, free donuts at the end of the day--but i have to do an assload of cleaning. more than i really bargained for, i think.
i get to sweep, mop, wipe, scrub, wash, and take out the trash. (garbage bags full of donuts are really heavy.)
and occassionally work at the register.

eh. -shrug- the other employees there are nice and the customers don't usually come in a bad mood. and the employer, dave, isn't there a lot, so i don't have to feel like i'm being watched and graded.
it's a socially-unstressful job.

and, hell, if i don't eat donuts every day (don't plan on it; i'd get so sick), i'll probably lose some weight doing this.

mmph.
time for some caffiene.
i spent last night dismantling a clock and trying to put it back together. it's strangely good fun.

Saturday, June 11th

it's a small world afterall...

Classical @ 04:25 pm CST

music: The Decemberists - The Sporting Life
feeling: swell

today = freakin' sweet.
'cept the fact that i need some chapstick. -finds-

there we go. tingly freshness.
so. :D
on gaia, i'm talking to a bunch of spiffy artists that i hang out with in threads and such, and somehow the topic of where i live gets up.
someone says that he (actually a she :D) lives in minnesota like me, and we go into the whereabouts and so on... and i peek at her (awesomesupercool) website and what do i see?
chibi toaster studios! i'm, like, "gasp! that's rana's!"

so i asked kafuness (aka cathy) if she knew her, said yes, and it's all a total small-world coincidence. kinda creepy. :P

either way, i got off my sorry ass today and went somewhere. -pause for dramatic gasps-

i dragged emily along, and after two hours of getting lost, we ended up downtown at the minnesota center for book arts for the zine trade fair. which actually had a lot of comics.
either way, rana was there, giving speeches and selling stuff, so i got to see her again after about a month, along with meeting cathy. got to pick up a few neat comics, too.

and now i really want to get back to my comic work. i'm crafting new stories (slowly) and i really ought to finish my other comic. >_o
first, have to finish that commission.
then to comic work! :D

...
..no, wait! nevermind that!
ice cream first!
-flee-

Thursday, June 9th

damnation by association.

Classical @ 12:36 pm CST

music: The Decemberists - 16 Military Wives
feeling: exhilarated

firrrrst day on summer vacation.
sweet shit.

so after hanging out with friends last night--which included going to a crazy mexican restaurant with blow-up maracas hanging from the ceiling that alexa wanted to run off with, laughing until my stomach cramped, watching i heart huckabees for the first time and having my brain explode over the philosphy, and going to the mall to buy caribou coffee, CDs, and squeaky cheese--it's been a great start to a niiiice summer.

now i want to sleep. so tired. :D

(the decemberists rock your shorts. :o)

Tuesday, June 7th

all this time, it was because of my vagina!

Classical @ 05:06 pm CST

music: Starsailor - Good Souls
feeling: fluffy

o_O
crazy discussion on a forum. some kid comes up with the assumption that girls do better art, for whatever reason.
and we're all, "it's because of the vaginas." they have magical powers and stuff.
DIDN'T YOU KNOW THAT ALREADY?! >0

anyway. :D
i neeeeed to go get my cd. my mother made a silly mistake while looknig for x&y and went to suncoast--they don't get new releases until a week or so later.
silly moms.

so that means cutting time out of homew--oh crap! it's five!
time to get to work! finals finals finals!!

>_<

Monday, June 6th

feelin' the love of the x&y.

Classical @ 09:35 pm CST

music: Starsailor - Silence is Easy
feeling: like daaaancing

damn, i need to get awaaay from starsailor.
'specially since x&y is out tomorrow. (so freakin' excited; i think i'm gonna have to bargain with my mother to take me to the store before school.)
but i love my music sooo. thank god school is two days away from the end; then i can listen to as much music as i want and not have to rotate my tastes so much. hell, i think i'll have music playing all day for the first few days off, just because i can.

unlike some people. -coughanderscough-

he makes me sad, refusing my gift of wonderous music because he's too damn attached to coldplay.
i am not too happy with that. he kinda insulted me. vaguely.

anyway.
cooooldplay tomorrow, last day of school the next day, and the first day of summer vacation after that.
it's, like, whoa, could it get any better than that? =P

Friday, June 3rd

haircuts and lollipops.

Classical @ 08:06 pm CST

music: Speak E. Clean - Hello Tomorrow
feeling: whee!

yup! hair cut for meee.
i now have bangs. i think i like them. at least they do a damn good job hiding all the lovely blemishes i get along my hairline.
so it's all good.

three days left of school. :D

this song... "hello tomorrow." it's from some older adias shoe commercial. y'know, the one where the guy gets out of bed, puts on his shoes, and runs around across non-exsistant floors. and i fell in looove with that song, but the band hasn't offically released it!
so i crawled the internet for it--good thing i wasn't the only one who adored the song, 'cause i found a very nice person who gave it to me. full thing, too!

so, yes, i get to sit here and groove to this nifty song.
because i'm cool like that.

aah, my hair smells so good. i feel fragrant, hee.
